These charming prints are not modern reproductions; they are genuine bookplates (pages) taken from 19th-century editions of the famous Hokusai Manga—his expansive series of sketchbooks depicting everything from everyday life and humor to nature and the supernatural.

Guaranteed Authenticity Crucially, these pieces come with outstanding provenance. The reverse of the framing carries the original label of T. Sakai (Sakai Kokodo) of Tokyo. Established in 1874, Sakai is one of Japan's oldest and most respected dealers of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints. This label is a guarantee that these are genuine, "old original" prints struck from woodblocks on traditional washi paper, likely dating to the mid-to-late 19th century (late Edo or Meiji periods).

The Artwork

• Print 1: Features a humorous procession of figures almost entirely obscured by large straw hats and bundles, a classic example of Hokusai's playful observation of daily life.

• Print 2: Displays various character studies, including a samurai figure, a monk, and other people in traditional attire.

Framing Both prints are presented in matching vintage frames with a light wood/faux-bamboo finish. They feature lovely silk-covered mats with a contrasting red inner bevel that highlights the red accents in the prints. They are ready to hang.
