Carboys, also known as demijohns, have a rich history dating back centuries. They were traditionally used for transporting and storing liquids, particularly wine and spirits. The earliest examples were often made of earthenware, but glass became the preferred material due to its non-reactive properties and transparency.

Cobalt blue glass, achieved by adding cobalt oxide during the glassmaking process, was particularly popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The deep blue color was not only aesthetically pleasing but also helped to protect the contents from light exposure. These bottles are now sought after for their decorative appeal and historical significance.
